    Well, if you want to be technical…

    Most of the elves would have to work around Christmas, so there would be a gradual amount of elves increasing year round, until Christmas is over and everyone basically gets a break. So, if each child in the world got an average of 6 presents (hypothetically) from Santa, and each elf could cover at least two a day (hypothetically), that would mean that it would take three days (hypothetically) for an elf to collect the presents for the kid. So, basically, elves could be triple the amount of children. BUT…elves could work for many more children than one, so the world may never know. It has to be around at least 76,863 to cover everyone in the world. (Just because its my favorite number)

    Then again, parents and family members and present givers could be elves, so that COULD be around like 3.5 billion elves.

    Who knows :D

    An unidentified number of elves at the North Pole. However, there is a contradictory argument saying that Santa Claus is from Greenland.

    I am not sure if we will get any accurate answers about the number of elves Santa Claus employs in the immediate future, but we must have faith in Santa Claus. We must be strong…

    The following text is from the first link:

    Following this line of reasoning, it is safe to assume that Santa Claus uses the relativity clouds to slow time down for his elves as they are preparing the presents, so there may be far fewer elves than you would initially think.
