Christmas Eve
And soon another Christmas will return
Seventy seven to count in turn,
my first remembered as a sweet dream
when I was three, on Christmas eve,
my Dad and family trimmed a live fir tree
with many colored lights, draped silver tinsel shinned,
then Dad would leave, and Santa came in the door
Santa gave me, a pretty baby doll she cried Mama,
all dressed in pink, she laid down in her own crib
wrapped in a blue soft blanket, hand stitched.
Three more eve's went by I recall with such joy,
yet sometimes wondered why, Dad went out
not seen again 'til Christmas morn!
0' no, my thoughts one night, could not be right.
Came summer time playing hide and seek
deep in their closet is where I hid
and found a dusty old brown box, opened the lid
to find a thread worn bright red Santa suit!
my thoughts came true, I cried, I sobbed,
I never told, somehow they knew,
tradition changed, My Dad stayed home
on Christmas eve.
But Santa came, when I was asleep.
Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Chrismas
LOL, yes tinsel has it's disadvantages,
the old silver clinged more to the tree, and eaisier clean up. My Dad was a stickler, to drape one strang at a time!!!
Age, is a blessing, to mind,heart,soul, a
shock to the body!
Sweet Gid, you can call me weese

This is a splendid memory!
my parents always told us Santa was a feeling of giving in us all, not a person, but they always had one present marked, from Santa.
I was about 8 and the neighbors college kid had come home for the Christmas break, he was blonde and had blonde eyebrows, my Mom asked him to dress up as Santa to show my older sister she didn’t know everything.
I still giggle at the look on her face seeing him at the door.
(I think I remember because I had a huge crush on the guy!)
What a lovely story, although I HATE tinsel, and thanks God someone invented the garland. I am still finding tinsel behind the desks and such at work, and we haven’t used tinsel in three years!
Thanks for sharing.
Your poem gave me a warm smile. Congrats. To each a special memory indeed when the real Santa is revealed. Well penned.
P.S. Now as to a lady revealing her age??? Is this like the Santa myth that at some point you have to stop believing in 39? lol Sounds like a poem waiting to be written…better get your pen out!
What a delightful Poem. Well done Jenny. Although, now you’ve revealed your age it seems a bit strange calling you by your first name.
I’m smiling with this memory of yours. Wonderful!!
